What is the admittance procedure?
JOY Academy is open to students who are motivated. The admittance procedure consists of an introductory visit and interview at our school. After this your child will make a diagnostic test. This test will take up to three days. The results of this test will show us in which level your child will start. After the interview and the test, we will decide together if this school suitable for your child and if we can offer what he/she will need.
When can my child start?
Because we have a continuing learning curriculum, your child can start at any time of the year. We take the time that’s needed to make your child feel at home and become familiar with the new system. We only allow one child at a time, in order to preserve the safe atmosphere we have. We also want to take time to get to know the parents. Because of this, it is possible that your child has to wait on a waiting list. However, we do make an exception for brothers and sisters, because it might be better for them to come together.
My child is highly gifted. Can you offer extra work and/or challenge?
Yes we can. a highly gifted child can take up extra optional subjects. There is plenty material to choose from. We can also discuss internships or lectures. As a school we like to find out, together with you and your child, what the best next step in the development of your child will be.
My child doesn’t speak/understand English. Is that a problem?
No, that is not a problem. We have a very good method at school to teach them this new language. During the morning lessons we use the language actively, which helps your child to get familiar with the expressions very soon. Our experience is that after a year they manages themselves perfectly in English. When your child doesn’t speak or understand English, the main focus will be on learning the language until your child has reached a certain level. Because of that, it is likely that his starting level will be lower than his didactical level. But this is not wasted time. In fact, your child will enjoy everything he has learned. As supervisors, we help your child as much as needed.
Can my child with learning or behavioral problems apply?
We are open to discuss the admission of every child regardless their learning or behavioral problems. Together with the parent(s) we discuss a child’s special needs and determine if we have the resources to guide the child to become that person God wants him to be. By experience we learned that our individual education, small structured classes are really beneficial to any child. The experiences, patience and sincere love of our supervisors brings out the best of our children.
We do not Believe is that a problem?
Every child is welcome at our School. Our philosophy is Biblical based, Jesus tells us; Let the children come to me! We do expect respect for our Biblical norms and values and an active participation in all subjects. (Participation in devotion and Bible PACEs is obligatory.)
How can we as parents participate?
At JOY Academy we highly appreciate open communication between parents and staff. Parents Meetings are held termly and are obligatory. Attending these meetings shows your respect and dedication toward your child’s progress and education. It is highly recommended to participate during one afternoon a week with project time. Being practically involved at school will give you the opportunity to be involved in your child’s live. Do not miss this experience!
